Dr. Maria Giacalone is in the business of restoring and maintaining health. In fact, she comes from a family of health professionals. Her father Dr. Joseph Giacalone has been in practice in New York since 1966, and her sister Dr. Susan Giacalone-Fucci has a practice in Mt. Arlington, New Jersey. Dr. Maria was inspired to follow in her father’s footsteps after seeing how her father enjoys helping people. A graduate of New York Chiropractic College, Dr. Maria is licensed to practice in Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey. Before opening Canadensis Chiropractic & Fitness Center in Canadensis, Pennsylvania, Dr. Maria practiced along with her father and sister in their offices. But on October 1, 1997 she launched out on her own in a 450 square foot cabin that once was part of Goose Pond Run Lodge. The picturesque property that the current building sits on along Goose Pond Run was once owned by Dr. Maria’s grandfather, John Baldini. The newly constructed building expands 5,000 square feet and is set back from busy route 390. It is separated from it’s parking lot by a beautiful custom designed walk bridge with wrought iron railings that spans 50 feet across the creek. The new Health Center houses a state of the art chiropractic clinic complete with radiography, exercise/rehab, massage, and diagnostic testing. In the rear of the building is a complete 24 hour fitness center, where patients and members enjoy state-of-the-art Streamline Fitness Equipment, extensive free weights, treadmills, bicycles, stair climbers, elliptical machines, steppers, and of course, MAGNUS!! -Dr. Maria’s English Bulldog always sits at the entrance to the building to greet everyone as they arrive. The fitness center also houses a Pilates/Yoga Studio and a Training Room for Boxing enthusiasts (inspired by Dr. Maria’s grandfather, Giacomo Giacalone, who won a “Golden Gloves” Title in his younger years). Dr. Maria has an educated and friendly staff who she credits with helping her practice to grow so successfully. “ I have a great staff. We are all working towards the same goal, taking care of people, and I am proud to have them on my team.” The small cabin that resides in the parking area of the facility (where Canadensis Chiropractic first started) is now the home of “Pampered Paws”, a pet store/boutique.
